I can’t talk about this soup without mentioning my toughest critic: my daughter. From the moment she tasted it at around 6 months old, she was hooked. Even now, as a toddler, it’s still one of her favorite meals.

So, if you’re looking for the best soup for your baby’s first foods or a healthy toddler-friendly meal option, give this creamy carrot soup recipe a try. It’s not only easy to make but also incredibly nutritious and oh-so-delicious!

Why I Love This Soup

Let me tell you, this carrot soup isn’t just any soup. It’s a powerhouse of nutrients disguised in a creamy, delicious blend that even the pickiest eaters can’t resist. From its vibrant color to its velvety texture, every spoonful is like a treat.

The best part? It’s meal prep and freezer-friendly! I don’t know about you, but when a recipe is freezer-friendly, it automatically wins a spot on my favorites list. I love making a big batch and storing it in Souper Cubes. When it’s time to serve, simply pop out a single serving, heat it in a saucepan, and voila! Ready to enjoy.

Benefits of Using Bone Broth

One of the secrets to making this soup extra special is the addition of bone broth. Not only does it enhance the flavor, but it also boosts the nutritional value. Bone broth is rich in essential minerals which are vital for healthy bone development in growing babies and toddlers. Plus, it adds a depth of flavor that elevates the whole dish to a new level of yumminess.

If you want to make this carrot soup recipe entirely plant-based, substitute the bone broth with vegetable stock.

Here’s What You’ll Need

How to Make Carrot Soup for Babies and Toddlers

To make this easy carrot soup, simply:

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they are soft and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add the chopped carrots and diced tomato to the pot, and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Pour in the bone broth, sweet paprika, thyme, turmeric, salt and pepper and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the carrots are tender.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then transfer it to a blender and puree until smooth and creamy. If needed, add more bone broth or water to reach your desired consistency.
  5. Serve warm and watch your little one slurp it up with joy!

Tips for serving this creamy carrot soup to babies and toddlers

  • Depending on your child’s age and preference, you can adjust the soup’s consistency by adding more broth or water if it’s too thick. For younger babies, a smoother texture might be easier to eat.
  • If your child is trying the soup for the first time, introduce it gradually alongside familiar foods. This helps them get accustomed to the new taste and texture.
  • To add variety and interest, you can experiment with different toppings such as grated cheese, a sprinkle of herbs, or a dollop of yogurt. Just make sure any toppings are age-appropriate and safe for your child.
  • Turn mealtime into a fun and positive experience by serving the soup in colorful bowls or using fun utensils. You can also make funny faces or shapes with the soup to engage your child’s interest.

How to Store and Reheat

Allow the soup to cool completely before storing it. Transfer the soup to an airtight container and store the soup in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

How to Freeze Carrot Soup

If you want to store the soup for longer, you can freeze it. Once cooled, transfer the soup into one cup Souper Cubes. Seal the Souper Cube lids tightly to prevent freezer burn. Label the Souper Cube with the date and freeze for up to 3 months.

When ready to serve, simply remove a single Souper cube from the freezer. Transfer the contents of the Souper cube into a saucepan. Heat the soup over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.

Why Souper Cubes Work Well

I love using one cup Souper cubes for storing my creamy carrot soup because they’re perfectly portioned for my toddler’s single serving size. These convenient silicone trays are freezer-safe, making it easy to pop out individual portions as needed. Plus, their airtight lids ensure that the soup stays fresh and doesn’t absorb any unwanted freezer odors. It’s a lifesaver for busy days when I need a quick and nutritious meal for my little one!
