General Information:

The Center for Global Engagement at JMU is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented professional to support our Global Learning & Partnerships (GLP) unit. The GLP team connects JMU faculty, staff, and students with international engagement opportunities through dynamic programs, connections, and events—whether on-campus, online, or abroad. We oversee the Peace Corps Prep Certificate program, manage international partnerships, and collaborate with internal and external partners to foster global engagement and collaboration. The GLP Office Specialist plays a vital role in supporting this unit and JMU’s global engagement initiatives. This position is responsible for various administrative and fiscal tasks involved with scheduling meetings and virtual exchanges, supply purchasing, and coordinating logistics for international travel and on-campus events. Communication is key, as the role requires liaising with faculty, staff, and international visitors, managing email accounts, and updating webpages. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and culturally sensitive, with strong communication skills and a passion for global education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:
• Administrative Support: Manage travel authorizations, schedule partner institution visits, coordinate events, and handle logistics including shipping and transportation. Create courses in the Student Administration system, track enrollment, and communicate with students, JMU faculty, and staff.
• Fiscal Management: Oversee expense transactions, credit card reconciliations, and budget-related tasks. Maintain accurate financial records and reports, and work with the university business office to ensure student accounts are up to date.
• Event Coordination: Organize and support GLP events, from room reservations to catering and technology setup. Assist with event setup, breakdown, and follow-up.
• Communication: Liaise with faculty, staff, and international visitors. Manage the unit’s shared mailbox accounts, update webpages, and handle phone inquiries.
• Visitor Coordination: Arrange schedules, accommodations, and welcome materials for external partners and international visitors.
• Data Management: Update student records, and conduct data management and trend analysis to support the GLP team’s initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in administrative or office role is highly desirable; experience in higher education is a plus.
• Familiarity with office procedures, financial procedures, and/or operating within state policies and guidelines.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new technology platforms.
• Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
• Passion for global education and JMU’s mission.
