Hey all, I'm starting my first inoculation using UB tek, I know not popular. But I'm just wondering what the norm is in terms of preserving and using portions of your spore syringe. Ideally I wont be storing anything related to mushrooms in the fridge, but it could be done. I have inoculated 3 bags, and realized I have like 50x more inoculations than I need. I really don't want to waste this stuff, but I can't turn my basem*nt into a factory lol. When you guys set out to grow a yield of around 3-4 dried oz's how many ccs do you use? And if you store the rest, how long? Do you need to refridgerate?
Also If anyone has used this tek, how many bags would you put in a 12 quart tub? If I have a massive tub probably like 15 gallons can I treat it like multiple 12 quart tubs? Sorry if I sound stupid, I'm just trying to get as much knowledge as I can so this doesn't end up in wasted resources or contam. Peace guys.

Don't know nuthin about the way Uncle Ben tek works
But I know that you can use that syringe in one or 10 containers of grains(I use a pressure cooker, use uncle ben if you want).
If you do one container(jar, cup whatever) it will go very fast, and if you do 10 it will be a lot slower.
I assume you are talking about liquid culture and not spore syringes....
The other day I used 1 syringe per jar on 10 jars, and the next 10 I poured the liquid culture in, without measuring it(first time, and it definitely worked)

You know that UB is not generally recommended. That also generally holds true for any scheme that involves squirting spore solution directly onto grain. So there's no real answer to your question. But the general rule is, not very much. There's no real benefit to adding extra spore solution to a container of grain. If you're successful and get relatively clean growth, then shaking will distribute it throughout your medium. More spores is not necessarily a good thing. When we want to generate a lot of material, we do it by expanding the mycelium we have into a bunch of new containers. Not throwing more spores around.

Syringes are really best suited for PFtek, then you're inoculating a small jar at multiple points and not doing any shaking. If you read up on recent PFtek posts, you're sure to find more specific instructions.

Personally, I'd recommend saving as much as possible so that you have something to come back to after you've completed this ill-advised mission. Also, regardless of what you do, start thinking about how you'll take spore prints if/when you successfully grow some fruit. You can always turn them into syringes later, but once you've taken some prints you've closed the loop and made yourself self-sufficient.

Using agar, I generally use just a few drops. I flame my loop, drop a couple drops on it and then streak my plates.
