Saya’s Vigil – Orokin Archives (2024)

Saya’s Vigil – Orokin Archives (1)

On the Plains of Eidolon, a mystery has lain buried for years, one that will mend or destroy a heart, and open the door to a hidden past.

Previous story quest: Vor's Prize

Starting the quest

This quest becomes available once the Tenno has completed Vor's Prize and completed Konzu's "Prove Yourself" bounty. Once these conditions are fulfilled, the Tenno will be able to talk to Konzu in Cetus with the dialogue prompt "A Personal Favour".

Saya’s Vigil – Orokin Archives (2)

Konzu: "Lok heb, Tenno! Have you met Saya? Lives on the outskirts of Cetus. [shows the Tenno a picture of three Ostrons] See? Here's the three of us: Me, Onkko, and headstrong Saya. We were inseparable-utz. The two of them even got married. They were happy, until he disappeared. [puts photo away] That was five years ago. Saya never moved on, never accepted it. And now I'm hearing Quill whispers: the Grineer found some trace of Onkko. And, just like old times, Saya's about to do something rash. Tsk, talk to her, eh? For Konzu. Ai yo… we have not spoken in… a long time."

Saya can be found near the Cetus market, standing next to a tree, highlighted with a blue quest objective marker.

Saya: "Chut! No time to talk! There's word of my husband. I have to go."

Tenno: "…Konzu is worried about you."

Saya: "Word travels fast. Konzu and I haven't spoken in five years. Not since his… involvement… in my husband's disappearance. And now, he sends you? By the Unum…. I'll accept help, if you bring Onkko back to me. But miss a trick, and I'll take care of business myself. Understood? Doh-ga."

(if the Tenno says "Hasn't it been five years?") Saya: "What's five years? I know he's still out there. I can feel it. I've petitioned those damned Quills for years – they seem to have knowledge of the future when it suits them. They're the one who told me the Grineer have uncovered something that might be Onkko's research. Why not just tell me where he is?! Tenno, you have to find him."

(if the Tenno says "I can't help right now.") Saya: "Suit yourself. Go on! Doh-ga!" [conversation ends]

(if the Tenno says "Let me see what I can find.") Saya: "Dah-dap, Tenno. I'll signal you when you're out on the Plains. As crazy as this sounds, you're looking for… glass." [conversation ends and mission begins]

Accepting the mission from Saya will immediately transition the Tenno into a mission on the Plains of Eidolon.

First Mission: Searching for Onkko (Plains of Eidolon, Earth)

Saya’s Vigil – Orokin Archives (3)

The Tenno begins on the Plains of Eidolon, by the gates of Cetus.

Lotus: "Alright, Tenno, be careful out here. Grineer numbers increase the farther you venture from Cetus. Patching the Ostrons to your signal now."

Saya: "My Onkko is alive. I know it. No one cared more for Cetus, for our people, than he did. He worked with the Quills, the Unum's closest servants, to decipher the secrets of the Sentient and the Glass Warrior who sacrificed herself to destroy it. If you search the camp, I know we'll find some sign of Onkko!"

The Tenno is directed to the small Grineer camp southwest of the gates, with the large drill.

(upon approaching the camp) Saya: "Ai yo! This is it. This is where the Grineer found some of Onkko's work. Has he been hiding here?"

The Tenno must kill all Grineer in the camp. Once the camp is cleared, dropships will arrive with additional reinforcements, which the Tenno must also kill.

(once the reinforcements start arriving) Vay Hek: "My, my… Tenno maggots and the greasy eels of Cetus, working together. My Tusk soldiers will gore you all the same!"

Lotus: "Hek! I should have known you'd be behind the Grineer incursions here. Who else would feed outmatched troops to an Eidolon if it would further their career?"

Vay Hek: [laughs] "And I'd feed it a million more for a chance to wrap my metal claws around your sweet, putrid neck!!!"

(upon defeating the reinforcements) Lotus: "Scanning the area… I'm getting strange readings from the cave at my waypoint. Smash that drill and go inside."

Konzu: "Ah, I remember that cave. Onkko and I used to shelter there. Rockslide sealed it off years ago. I— I hope he's not…."

(upon destroying the drill) Saya: "Onkko? Onkko!? He should be here!"

Inside the cave can be found an oblong white container, which the Tenno can pick up by interacting with it.

(upon picking up the coffer) Saya: "By the Unum, is that… that coffer his? It bears Onkko's mark! It must be important. If it's here, and he's not… oh…. Please, Onkko, no…."

Konzu: "Saya—"

Saya: "Khanung! I won't say a thing to him, Tenno. I'm guessing he didn't tell you he was with my Onkko the day he disappeared!"

Lotus: "This coffer is strange. I don't understand the locking mechanism. Tenno, return to your Orbiter so we can get it open."

The Tenno is directed to the small pond to the west for extraction. Upon arrival at the extraction point, the Landing Craft will drop in and extract the Tenno to their Orbiter.

[on board Orbiter]

Lotus: "Let's activate your Codex system to examine this Ostron container."

An interface is shown with Konzu's picture of the three friends, a few small glass shards, and the Ostron coffer. Nothing can be interacted with.

Lotus: "The lock seems damaged. We'll have to force it open."

Saya: "No, wait! Oh, Onkko was a genius utz. He's protected whatever is inside with a shatter-lock. The key, moulded from glass, has been broken. Forcing it would only destroy everything inside. We need to rebuild the glass. If he was dying, he would have wanted this found… but he locked it. Onkko… is alive!"

Lotus: "A new strategy, then, Tenno. Sending Codex Scanners to your inbox. These will be essential in locating the shatter-lock pieces out there on the Plains."

The Tenno will receive an inbox message from the Lotus, containing 25 Codex Scanners.

Inbox message:
Codex Scanners

Tenno,

You will need Codex Scanners to find Onkko's glass shards. Equip these in your arsenal.

If you run out, more can be found in the Market.

—The Lotus

The Tenno must equip Codex Scanners (Synthesis Scanners will not suffice) in order to begin the next mission.

(if the Tenno lingers) Lotus: "To equip your Codex Scanner: Go to the Arsenal, and use the gear interface to add the scanners to your gear wheel."

Second Mission: Locate the Shatter-lock Pieces (Plains of Eidolon, Earth)

Saya’s Vigil – Orokin Archives (4)

The Tenno begins on the Plains of Eidolon, by the gates of Cetus.

Konzu: "Saya… kruna metta… Let me help. I was there… I might be able to—"

Saya: "Oh, you were there all right, Konzu. You both went out on the Plains that day… but only you returned. You expect me to believe this had nothing to do with what happened in our early summers? When I rejected your iron flower? Your proposal?"

Konzu: "Iron flower?! I can't hear this. You know I had nothing to do with his…. I miss him too, Saya."

The Tenno is directed to a small Grineer camp near Seaside Ruin.

(upon approaching the camp) Lotus: "Equip your Codex Scanner and search the area for the glass shards we need."

Three small glass shards are located in the area, representing the lore fragments "Childhood Games", "Friendship", and "The Glass Warrior". They must be scanned with a Codex Scanner or Synthesis Scanner. The shards will give off a faint ringing sound when the Tenno is nearby.

(upon scanning the first shard) Lotus: "Excellent, Tenno. There should be more in this area."

(upon scanning the second shard) Lotus: "You found another shard. Keep looking."

(upon scanning the third shard) Lotus: "That's it. There's no more shards here."

Once all the shards have been scanned, Grineer reinforcements will arrive by dropship and orbital insertion, and the Tenno must kill them to proceed.

Vay Hek: "Grineer! Spread out. Crawl if you have to! I need more glass! It is the key to a power I've never seen. The power to kill… a Sentient!"

Eventually a Bolkor gunship will arrive as well.

Lotus: "Grineer air support incoming!"

Vay Hek: "Oh, look what we have here! More fertiliser for our Grineer gardens! Your worm-bloated corpse will blend nicely with the excrement on my crops!"

Lotus: "I can't extract you until you've dealt with those reinforcements."

(upon killing all the Grineer troops) Lotus: "We have everything we came for. Get to extraction."

Once the reinforcements have been destroyed, the Tenno's Landing Craft will appear and extract the Tenno wherever they are.

[on board Orbiter]

Upon returning to the Orbiter, the Tenno will see the same interface as before, with the Ostron coffer. The three glass shards scanned during the mission will appear one at a time and be fitted into the lock, but the key is still incomplete.

Lotus: "What was Vay Hek talking about back there? What power is he after?"

Konzu: "Onkko… he found the remains of the Unum's champion: a woman of glass. He studied her, obsessed about her ancient secrets. The Quills of Cetus swore us to secrecy, and the secret held… until the Grineer captured one. Can't imagine what they did to get one of them to talk, but Vay Hek's been after that relic ever since."

Saya: "Ai yo. This Vay Hek… could… could he have taken Onkko prisoner, too? Do you think he'd make a trade, this coffer, for my Onkko? No. No. That would go against everything Onkko believed in – the sanctity of our people's home, of Cetus. Tenno, you need to find the remaining shards."

Lotus: "I've tracked some off-world shipments to a Galleon in orbit. Hek may be guarding any key shards he's found up there."

Third Mission: Board Hek’s Galleon (Pacific, Earth)

Saya’s Vigil – Orokin Archives (5)

The mission takes place in the Grineer Galleon tileset with normal Grineer enemies. Initially, there is no objective or waypoint.

Lotus: "Something's wrong. My scans are being blocked. I can't detect any shards."

Saya: "What does that mean? This Galleon is huge. Think, think…."

Konzu: "Hmmm… Onkko would have known what to do."

Saya: "Each fragment responds to a unique harmonic. We discovered that during my initial work on Cetus' transceiver system. It's too bad we can't walk a wideband harmonic through the ship."

Lotus: "Who says we can't? I'll perform a broad frequency sweep."

Waves of energy will ripple throughout the ship in every direction, crescendoing to the sound of ringing glass. After this, a waypoint will appear on the map.

Konzu: "Saya, that worked! Onkko wasn't the only one with a sharp mind. We are elevated by your work, and his. Your marriage was a boon to Cetus."

Saya: "It wasn't always easy. Cetus came first, always. Things were… missed. Special days. Anniversaries. But it was a duty. And a privilege."

Vay Hek: "Tenno? TENNO!!! Ooh, is it my birth interval?! Such a gift! But… I have a surprise for YOU, you greasy metal MAGGOT!" [laughs]

The waypoint will lead the Tenno into a large room, where a small contingent of Grineer marines awaits, accompanied by a Nox unit. The Nox must be killed.

Vay Hek: "Surprise, surprise! A gleaming MAGGOT squirmed into my ship. Well, let's see you slip out of this one!" [laughs]

(upon killing the Nox) Vay Hek: "WHAT?!! You pathetic MEAT PILES! Can't you stop one puny MAGGOT from squirming away?! AARGH!"

The glass fragment is in a spy vault directly after the room with the Nox. There are no security measures present to lock down the vault and the computer mainframe does not need to be hacked, but the Tenno does need to hack multiple consoles to access the vault room where the shard is. However, the vault room is separated from the outside of the vault by a glass window, and the glass shard can be seen and scanned from the other side, so the vault does not need to be entered at all. The glass shard represents the lore fragment "Night in Cetus".

(upon scanning the glass shard) Lotus: "Tenno, we've recovered all of the shards Vay Hek discovered. Get to extraction."

[on board Orbiter]

Upon returning to the Orbiter, the glass shard will be slotted into the shatter-lock of the coffer along with the rest, but there is still a small piece missing from the key.

Saya: "There's only one piece left. Hek's digging in the central Plains. I recall Onkko finding a few interesting artefacts in the region of—"

Konzu: "—that crater lake where we used to fish! Haha! That place where Onkko's catch got eaten by the line by—"

Saya: "[laughs] —that massive Hukta, and we had to haul him out! Hahaha. We spent the whole day drying his notebooks! [sigh] That was a good day. I think I know where we should look. Doh-ga, doh-ga! While it's dark! The Grineer won't be there!"

Fourth Mission: Locate the Final Fragment (Plains of Eidolon, Earth)

Saya’s Vigil – Orokin Archives (6)

The Tenno begins on the Plains of Eidolon, by the Cetus gates, at night.

Saya: "I'll never know what happened to him. I don't even want to open that box now. It won't change a thing."

Konzu: "I wouldn't blame you if you turned back…."

Saya: "No. I need to know."

At this point, the Grineer siren will sound, signalling a retreat to the fortified camps until the night is over. A waypoint will also appear on the map, directing the Tenno to the Grineer camp by the small pond to the southwest of the gates, near Er-Phryah's Vigil.

Vay Hek: "Evacuation flights have been rescinded. You'll stay out here all night if that's what it takes. Find that piece, before an EIDOLON FINDS YOU!"

Konzu: "Kruna metta. The Eidolons are all that remains of the great Sentient destroyed here. At night, its spirit rises and hunts, a mindless beast trying to rebuild itself. Watch out! If you see one, don't fight it. You can only run!"

As the Tenno approaches the camp, an Eidolon Teralyst will spawn out of the pond. Grineer reinforcements will arrive via orbital drop-pod, and will begin attacking the Teralyst ineffectually. The Teralyst will engage the Grineer, and its homing attacks may target the Tenno if they venture too close.

Lotus: "Tenno, take cover! Your warframe is no match for that thing!"

Vay Hek: "It's… beautiful. It's so beautiful… KILL IT!"

Konzu: "The beast is drawn to the Grineer! Can you get to the excavation site? It has to be in there!"

The waypoint leads the Tenno to a cave in the hillside, by the shore of the pond, near where the Teralyst is. Some Grineer may pursue. Eventually, the Tenno will come to a chamber where a round flat stone lies on the ground. The Tenno can move the stone aside by interacting with it, and a glass shard, representing the lore fragment "Ostron Cuisine", can be found in a hollow underneath it.

(upon scanning the glass shard) Saya: "You have it! Onkko's final piece to the shatter-lock."

Konzu: "There's another way out of that cave, away from the Teralyst."

The Tenno is waypointed to extraction, via another tunnel out of the cave.

Lotus: "Tenno, I'm having Ordis pull you out. Get to the extraction point."

Vay Hek: "You think it would be that EASY? TUSKS! MY TUSKS! New orders – ignore the monster! Stop that TENNO MAGGOT!!!"

The extraction point is at Er-Phryah's Vigil, and Tusk soldiers will arrive to stop the Tenno from getting to extraction. However, they do not need to be killed. Once at the waypoint, the Tenno's Landing Craft will extract them.

Aftermath (on board Orbiter)

The coffer will be shown again, with the four glass shards found previously already fitted into the lock.

Saya: "Konzu, you should know… you were the best friend he ever had. I'm ready. Open the box."

The fifth glass shard will be added, and the key completed. The coffer will open, revealing a metal sculpture in the form of a flower.

Konzu: "Saya? You… kept my flower?"

Saya: "Oh, Onkko. You always told me I should try following my heart, instead of my head. Sho-lah. I guess it's time I did."

Afterwards, the Tenno will receive a video message from the Lotus in their inbox containing the blueprint for the Gara warframe.

Inbox message:
Treasure in the Glass

Lotus (video message): "A second frequency sweep on Onkko's glass revealed blueprints for Gara, the legendary Glass Warrior who sacrificed herself to protect Cetus. Onkko was wise to ensure this information reached us. The Ostrons are grateful, and so am I. Once again, the path ahead is yours to determine. My supplementary message should make that path more clear."

Tenno,

You now have Gara's base blueprint, but to build any warframe, you must also acquire additional component blueprints.

The components are Chassis, Systems, and Neuroptics. Complete Bounties for Konzu to earn them for Gara.

To build Gara in your Foundry, you also require resources like Iradite and Grokdrul, which must be gathered on the Plains of Eidolon.

Be aware that building any warframe is a long-term project. You are always free to fight on other fronts while you gather blueprints and resources, and build your strength to face the Plains' most ardent foes.

—The Lotus

As the message says, the component blueprints for Gara can be obtained by running Bounties on the Plains of Eidolon.

The Tenno will also receive another inbox message from The Business.

Inbox message:
Greetings from Fortuna

The Business (video message): "Greetings from Fortuna. Word of good deeds travels quickly. Even between planets. Visiting Ostron traders mentioned you taught the Grineer a lesson in humility. Might you be up for teaching the Corpus a lesson or two in good management next? You see, Nef Anyo eagerly awaits the completion of a coolant tower here on Venus – no matter the human cost. It is time, I believe, to present him with a bill he cannot escape. I do hope you will visit Venus soon."

After the quest, Saya will move to stand next to Konzu, where she helps him run Bounties.
