The Courier Mail has announced the newspaper will no print comic strips, much to the dismay of the industry. In a small article in the paper today, the Courier Mail said the decision was based on “extensive research into changing readership habits”.

The Daily Mail still lays claim to be the biggest selling print newspaper in the UK, selling an average of 797,704 copies a day in the latest official figures – although this is down 12% on the same time last year.

An influential voice in Queensland politics and the state's first newspaper, The Courier-Mail was founded in 1846 as the Moreton Bay Courier, as it was known then. In 1861 it became a daily newspaper and in 1864 was renamed the Brisbane Courier.
